“What you eat is of the essence!”
Roald Amundsen
When Roald Amundsen reached the South Pole on 14th December 1911, he became world-famous. Amundsen was strong, a visionary – and not least, interested in nutrition. Today, we know that Amundsen’s success was due to training and a diet rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins and minerals.
Amundsen acquired knowledge of nutrition and health from the Eskimos he encountered on his early journeys, observing how their diet consisted mostly of seal and fish. The Eskimos looked physically well and were in good health, despite living in a society without doctors. Today, we know that a high level of omega-3 fatty acids in the Eskimo diet was the reason for this. We can also say that Roald Amundsen’s huge achievement was a result of the right diet, one rich in omega-3.
