FAQ
Where does your omega-3 origin from?
Our omega-3 is produced from sustainable fishing along the coast of SouthAmerica in cold waters. Our supplier is approved by an international organization called "Friend of the Sea," and this organization has also approved Amundsen Omega3 as a certified "Friend of the Sea" product. The oil is refined in Norway and Iceland, and is of the purest and best oil in the world. Patented techniques are used to ensure a high quality, pure oil with no heavy metals or other contaminants.
What is rancidity (oxidation)?
All oil, wether its fish oil or olive oil will turn rancid over time. What is important is to ensure that this process is delayed as far as possible, have good quality ingredients and the best refining techniques. Norway is the world leader in this, and we can guarantee that we have done our utmost to deliver a perfectly healthy and fresh product.
To be extra safe, you can also cut in a capsule in two and taste some of the oil. It should be pale yellow and taste faintly of fish. A rancid capsule is dark yellow and tastes bad!
How do we protect our products against oxidation?
Our oil is produced using techniques that maintain the high quality, from the oil is squeezed out of the fish and transported to Norway for purification and concentration, until it ends up with the consumer. We also add a small amount of vitamin E, because this protects against oxidation. This, as well as the oil being kept cool and the absence of oxygen, means that when the oil is encapsulated it is completely fresh.
When we pack Amundsen Omega-3 and Obersten Omega-3, we make sure to minimize oxygen in the process. Capsules are packed in "blister" boards, which are airtight and slows oxidation. Obersten Omega-3 is packed in a controlled environment under a neutral gas, which means there is no oxygen inside the pack when leaving the factory.
From packaging we have an expiry date of 2 years. Storing products in a cool environment without exposure to sunlight increases the durability. Very simply, one can say that for every tenth degree the temperature is lowered, the durability is doubled. It is therefore very important to store products in the refrigerator at 4 degrees, and not in room temperature.

What is the difference between omega-3 and cod liver oil?
The difference between cod liver oil and omega-3 capsules is mainly that while the oil in omega-3 capsules is produced from whole fish like anchovies and sardines, cod liver oil is produced from only the liver of cod. Cod liver oil also contains natural vitamin A and D, while this must be added to omega-3 oil. Omega-3 oil contains only natural vitamin E, and that is why dogs, cats and horses only should take liquid omega-3. Animals should in fact rather not have vitamin A, which cod liver oil contains. One must also take more cod liver oil to get the same amount of EPA and DHA, because cod liver oil is completely natural, while omega-3 is concentrated.
What distinguishes Amundsen Omega3 and Obersten Omega-3 from other products in the market?
What is most important when it comes to the quality and effect of omega-3 is the amount of EPA and DHA in the omega-3 oil. EU recommends at least 0.6-1 gram of omega-3 in each day, and serious manufacturers will always give information on the package how much EPA and DHA the product contains.Omega-3 oil should also be in its natural form; triglycerides or phospholipids. Artificial or synthetic forms of omega-3 does not provide the same health benefits.
Amundsen Omega3 contains the natural form of omega-3 triglycerides, comes from sustainable fishing and is of the purest in the world! In addition, all our products contain vitamin D, as well as other ingredients such as evening primrose oil, folic acid and Q10 depending on which product you choose.
Obersten Omega-3 is packed in a controlled environment under a neutral gas, which means there is no oxygen inside the pack when leaving the factory. The container is also designed to ensure an effective barrier to oxygen. Obersten omega-3 has a long shelf life and high quality.
